The market for board games is growing faster than people are aware of In the main part, it appears that the most flashy games climb to the top as the more subdued less appealing games fall to the lowest. This is all a part of appearance, but however, it’s not the only factor that affects playing the game. In the event that Asmodee Canada reached out with an opportunity to review SETUP and I was not particularly at all. But, as a member of the media within the board game industry it was almost mandatory to write about the most recent game released by Bezzerwizzer Studio.
I’m glad I did it, and it could be that this is letting go of that cat’s cage. I thoroughly enjoyed SETUP and even though it’s not flashy in any way however, it is a winner in the key areas with the game. The game SETUP, “Players combine suits and numbers on tiles that resemble cards to score points. The key is placement, since you can build sets in any direction, or put tiles on top of each other to confuse the opponent. One tile will earn you points on multiple sets since it is extended across different directions, but be cautious not to aid players create sets of their own!”
One of the reasons that I like SETUP for so long is that the setup process – no meaning intended easy. After just 1 game I can complete a SETUP game set up and setup – no pun intended – within 30 seconds or less. It’s not often that I can pick a game from the 300 games in my collection and get it set up in just 30 minutes!
The teaching of the game is simple, as is teaching players how to build sets and earn points. It’s similar to something you’ve played previously however it is distinct enough that you’re fascinated at the potential. In a way, you could say that SETUP seems familiar even though it’s certainly not. One thing I’ve learned about playing games, it’s that, the less familiar an game or concept appears more fun it’s more likely.
There’s also a team sport which can be played which lets older players play alongside younger players. It was a very popular method for us to have fun with my 9 year old since it was a good way to assist him with his tiles while allowing him the ability to make his own decisions independently.
This is the simplest of SETUP. I like how easy the game is however, there’s a decent amount of depth to the gameplay, making every game feel distinct. The manipulation of numbers is not a particularly appealing game mechanic for me however, I thoroughly enjoy this game. It’s possible that I won’t get a win – and probably never will, however, I’m having a fantastic time playing this game. At a reasonable cost of 39.99 I’m convinced that this is a fantastic game to include in your fun and quick entertainment for your family and friends.
