At least five people have been confirmed dead and nine wounded in the dead and nine wounded as a result of an active shooter incident within the Old National Bank in Louisville, Kentucky, in the downtown region that is located in downtown Louisville on the 10th of April 2023. Police say the suspect was an “lone gunman that did have a connection to the bank” and was either a former or current employee. A police officer was among the wounded, according to police.
The suspect is identified as 23-year-old Connor Sturgeon, who is a Louisville resident who is originally from Indiana. Sturgeon has graduated from University of Alabama in 2020, WVUA reports. Sturgeon began his work at the Old National Bank in Louisville as an intern when he was studying and later became an employee full-time following his graduation. Police say they were unable to verify the employment status of Sturgeon at the time that the incident occurred.
The victims killed during the shooting were identified in the report as Joshua Barrick, 40; Thomas Elliott, 63; Juliana Farmer, 45; and James Tutt, 64. The four victims were employed in the banking establishment, police stated. Three LMPD officers as well as 6 bank workers were hurt in the incident as per police. Three of the wounded, which includes officer Nicholas “Nick” Tutt, are in critical condition. Three other victims are being treated in non-critical conditions, while the three others were treated before being released. Police say Tutt was injured in the head, and then underwent brain surgery but is stable.
An additional Louisville officer was struck by one of the bullets in his side when he exchanged gunfire the suspect, while a third officer suffered minor elbow injuries according to police. In an update series of tweets, Louisville police reported that call for an “active aggressor” came in at around 9:45 a.m. in the morning from the banks. Police said that officers had been “on scene in minutes,” and that the “lone shooter is deceased.” Police reported that four victims were killed in the bank and six more were taken into hospital. Police Scanner Audio Revealed Details of a Chaotic Scene
On the police scanner audio streamed from Heavy via the archives and live-streaming website Broadcastify A dispatcher reported in a preliminary report that a caller stated “eight to nine people were shot.” The dispatcher identified that the person in question was a white man wearing dark pants, and was in the top floor. Police haven’t confirmed the information. The dispatcher stated that they were able to identify the victim as a white 25-year-old male who called one of his friends and left a message saying he would “kill everyone at the bank” due to feeling suicidal. There were people locked in the vault of the bank at one time according to the scanner’s audio.
A brother and mother of the gunman contacted police, and they recorded their statements that they had a scanner.
Video was the highlightof the downtown area of Louisville.
At the time, police claimed the shooter was dead however, that has never been verified. Police reported that they saw four persons dead in the conference room. One shooter was wounded in the head police stated, but one other person inside the room was alive.
Shooting then broke out in the scanning device. “He’s still actively firing,” the officer added.
An Officer Was ‘Down Right in Front of the Bank,’ Police Said on the Scanner
“Officer down right in front of the bank,” the dispatcher reported, noting that the officer was standing on steps that are in front of the bank. The preliminary scanner reports could contradict or be incorrect when active shooter incidents are swiftly moving. The officers declared a “code three” and said the wounded officer was transferred to a hospital.
“The shooter has an angle on the officer,” police stated in the scanner when they got to the bank in downtown. Police expressed concern of being ambushed.
Another person was wounded in the leg in the bathroom on the first floor according to the scanner’s audio.
Louisville Police Wrote That They Were Aware of a ‘Reported Incident’ as Video Showed the Response to the Scene
Louisville police posted on Twitter, “ALERT: We are aware of an incident that has been reported located in 300 Block East Main St. in the city of Louisville. As soon as we know more, we will provide you with information. Beware of this zone. #LMPD #LouMedia.”
The scanner was where officers debated ways to reach the injured officer. The condition of the officer was not yet apparent.
The name of the suspect and the motive aren’t certain.
“Be careful,” an officer told other officers to be careful on the scanner.
The Mayor Said ‘There Is an Active Police Situation Downtown’
The Louisville mayor Louisville, Craig Greenberg, posted via Twitter the 10th of April, 2023. “There is a heightened police presence in downtown Louisville. Avoid the area around Slugger Field until further notice. We will notify you in the shortest time possible.”
“Get an EMS right now,” an officer told in the scan. He stated that one victim was hit in the head. He added that there were several levels at the bank.
SWAT officers responded to the scene, according the scanner. Officers stated in the first audio they didn’t know exactly where that shooter might be. Another time they claimed that the shooter could be in the area and they were looking around the area.
