A new period has started in the world of luxury brands.
What happens next? Where will Gucci take the next step? It’s among the top commonly asked questions after Gucci the creative director Alessandro Michele departed the fashion house in November 2022. In less than 2 months time, the brand unveiled its fall 2023 men’s collection that may be the reason that more people are thinking about.
“This is not Gucci,” one user commenting in Gucci’s Instagram post. “Is it Gucci or Zara?” was another comment.
Alessandro’s vintage-inspired references weren’t there and the result was mixed reviews from the fashion elite. The former creative director’s theme runway was reduced down to mediocre display of clothes, with a live band on the back. However, to be honest, Gucci’s 68 pairs of identical twins on its runway was difficult to beat and was one of the most talked-about shows this year.
With “improvisation” as its main motivation Gucci’s latest collection was various styles that have prompted a range of evaluations. Though it’s not perfect Gucci’s new collection is full of some laudable moments too: For instance, the floor-length skirts featuring high slits for instance or the flurry of tops that have symmetrical and plunged necklines. They could be considered to be safe in comparison to other brands, but Gucci created a look that is appropriate without being over-the-top.
Yes, we’ve seen pleated trousers with oversized pleats previously, but a silky overalls in chiffon, paired with a furry bags is an absolute delight to see. The oversized suits aren’t recent on the runway, however, the addition of removable sleeves and pants made us smile.
The majority of shows use shock-factor for closing looks, however Gucci chose to close the show with white tank top, sparkling jeans and an oversized black beanie.
