Cicciolina is the newest single from the New York-based Cumgirl8, a post-punk group. It’s named after porn star, model politician, singer and porn-star Ilona Staller, who is best recognized for her role as Cicciolina. Cicciolina is the very first to show her breasts on Italian television, as well as her career in politics. She began as a member of her party, the Green Party before switching to Partito Radicale with a platform that included opposing NATO as well as nuclear energy, and later forming Partito dell’Amore (“Party of Love”) in the mid 2000s. Cumgirl8 recently signed with 4AD and “cicciolina” is their first single under the 4AD label.
Cumgirl8’s song starts with the sound of a snazzy sounding synth and drums, before breaking into color with hypnotic sing-song lyrics and the constant damage-disco beat of the drums. Guitars writhe and jangle in erratic phrases. It’s remarkable that something like a sigh of anxiety can be accompanied by such a joyful zeal. The video shows Cicciolina-power the full splendour of hyper-colour disruption of a gathering and challenging the suitors with synchronised swimmers on a green screens, cake splashing inside a large martini glass and all the visual chaos that mixes disarray and fun at the same time.
