Microsoft has announced that its two-step verification program “Microsoft Authenticator” will no longer work with an Apple Watch as it will end the app in the near future.

On an article on the Microsoft support website the company announced that an update to the Authenticator iOS app in January 2023 will eliminate this companion application from watchOS.

In the end, customers of this device Apple Watch will no longer have access to the service through the device.

“In the upcoming Authenticator release in January 2023 for iOS, there will be no companion app for watchOS due to it being incompatible with Authenticator security features. This means you won’t be able to install or use Authenticator on Apple Watch,” the company stated.

“We therefore recommend that you delete Authenticator from your Apple Watch. This change only impacts Apple Watch, so you will still be able to use Authenticator on your other devices,” it said.

It’s important to note that this is only applicable to this version of the app. watchOS Version of Microsoft Authenticator. Therefore, users are still able to utilize Microsoft Authenticator on the iPhone and iPad.

Through Microsoft Authenticator, users can quickly sign in to the Microsoft account or other supported apps with two-step verification enabled.

It also generates one-time usage codes that permit users to login to their accounts without waiting for texts or calls.
