How to Help Morning Sickness

Congratulations! You have the Egyptian Flu! You will be a Mummy! You won’t get morning sickness. As a man, I don’t know what it feels like. However, as the father to five children and Grandad to 14-year-olds, and having delivered many babies in my early career, I have learned a few things. You may find that what works for one person doesn’t work for another. This is why patience and trial and error are important. You have probably tried many of these suggestions already. If you suffer from severe morning sickness, called hyperemesis Gravidarum, I am here to offer my sympathy. You also have my sympathy if you only have mild symptoms. I hope this helps.

What causes morning sickness?

Morning sickness can happen at any time. It doesn’t have to be in the morning. What causes morning sickness? Morning sickness is caused by hCG (human chorionic Gonadotropin), which is produced by the placenta. hCG is a hormone that promotes progesterone, which is the main support hormone for pregnancy. Morning sickness is usually a sign that a pregnancy is healthy. It is rare for it to be caused by serious problems such as a hydatiform mole. Twin pregnancies are more likely to have higher levels of hCG than singleton pregnancies.

Home remedies for nausea during pregnancy

To prevent morning sickness, keep crackers or dry cereal at your bedside. Multiple small meals. Your stomach’s ability and capacity to digest food is slowed by progesterone. Sip, not guzzling, plenty of liquids. Clear sodas like ginger ale and ice can be soothing. Avoid spicy or greasy foods and eat bland food. Avoid nauseating smells if possible. Preggie Pops was the best choice for my daughters.

Lemons as a remedy for morning sickness

Lemons are good for you, even if they’re not eaten. For some, smelling them can be helpful. Relief can be found in any food containing ginger. Ginger ale, ginger tea and toast with ginger jam are all good options. Jell-O might not be your favorite snack but it can help with morning sickness. Pretzels are helpful for some people, just like crackers.

Are supplements and medicines helpful?

Morning sickness can be treated with supplements. Many women love to take ginger, vitamin B6 and pyridoxine. Randomized controlled trials have shown that Unisom/doxylamine can help with nausea, especially when combined with B6. Unisom/doxylamine is classified as a category A drug. This means that it has been proven safe during pregnancy. Prescriptions for Zofran/ondansetron may be helpful if needed. Although Zofran safety in pregnancy has not been established, it is safe to use and is commonly used by women who require more support. These medicines should be discussed with your obstetrician.

Are there other therapies that might be helpful?

Acupressure bands worn at the wrist can be helpful for some women, while others may not find it so beneficial. Lavender essential oil diffusers may be of some benefit. Some people may also try acupuncture. These tips may not be helpful for you. Please consult your obstetrician.
