UK private space firm Skyrora confirmed on Thursday that the first time it attempted to launch into space with a Skylark L suborbital rocket ended with a failure when the rocket sank to the Norwegian Sea about 500 meters (1,640 feet) away from the launch location.

UK private space company Skyrora announced on Thursday that its initial attempt to launch the Skylark L suborbital rocket ended with a failure when the rocket crashed in the Norwegian Sea about 500 meters (1,640 feet) from the distance away from the launch location.

“Skyrora has tried to send their suborbital Skylark L rocket from a location situated in Langanes, Iceland into space and mark another significant achievement on the way to commercial success and it’s the very first vertical orbital launch launched from UK soil in 2023.

The vehicle was able to leave the launch pad and encountered an unusual landing that caused it to crash into the Norwegian Sea approximately 500 metres away from the launch site,” the company stated.

It was reported by the company stated that nobody had been injured in the accident and work to bring the rocket back to its original position is currently in progress.

Skylark L Skylark L is an 11-meter suborbital rocket capable to reach speeds four times more powerful than sound, and a height of more than 125 km (78 miles).
