BPS launches NIT to provide comprehensive economic picture

The head of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Margo Yuwono, on Tuesday, launched The Integrated Institutional Balance (NIT) to provide comprehensive economic statistics and give an overall view of the economy.
“The provisions of NIT is also an indication of Indonesia’s commitment to implementing the guidelines from the Data Gap Initiative (DGI) particularly point 2.8 concerning the distribution of sectoral accounts as well as accounts balances (SAB) as well as NIT,” Yuwono informed at the NIT launch and socialization in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The process of assembling NIT was executed through a series of steps starting with collecting information from different agencies and ministries, through reconciling data, then analysing and reviewing the data.

When preparing for the NIT, BPS collaborated with Bank Indonesia and received full assistance of The Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) and the Financial Services Authority (OJK) as the primary provider of data.

“NIT is the apex of comprehensive, integrated and consistent macroeconomic data. Therefore, the collaboration between agencies for the creation of NIT should be sustained and increased,” he said.

The process of preparing NIT included data harmonization to ensure consistency of macroeconomic data . This included harmonization of gross domestic products (GDP) data using three perspectives: production, expenditure and income.

Additionally, the coherence with NIT data with government financial statistics that are published from the Ministry of Finance, monetary-financial statistics published by BI and balance of payments data of BI was also guaranteed.

“This harmonization process is an effort to ensure the quality of the data sources to ensure the accuracy of Indonesia’s macroeconomic data” said the minister.

Co-ordinating Minister of Economics Airlangga Hartarto earlier said that the government is working to curb the rate of inflation both at regional and national levels.

Market operations have been planned through the involvement of various actors to ensure price affordable, and partnerships between local authorities have been established to ensure security of supply of commodity He added.

Minister said that the government would also enhance the use of trading platforms that are digital and provide cargo fee subsidy to boost logistics flow and speed up the introduction of programs for food plants.

“(We are taking various steps) to be prepared such as the demand for chili that is high particularly towards the close of the year,” Hartarto informed here Hartarto herelast week.

Regional authorities also have formulated an additional ten fundamental and strategic food commodities within their regions, he added.

The authorities of the region will work in conjunction with National Food Agency to improve farm equipment and facilities including storage facilities in the farms’ production centers He added.
