Experts on kidney diseases say that in 60 per cent of the cases, kidney damage is caused by drugs taken for other diseases. That’s why it is necessary to be careful in the use of medicines to protect the kidneys. Do not take or at least take medicines that can harm the kidneys.
Speaking at the virtual event ‘Kidney Manthan’ organized by Emil Pharmaceuticals on Friday, Professor of Internal Medicine, Bangalore Medical College and Research Center, Prabhu S. Said this. Mentioning several studies done in India and abroad, he said in his presentation that drugs ranging from pain relievers to antibiotics, anti bacterial, anti fungal, anti cancer, psychiatric drugs cause kidney damage. Drug use is responsible for 60% of cases of severe kidney damage. These drugs damage kidney function by increasing the number of cells, free radicals, and causing inflammation.
He also kept the details of dozens of such drugs, but said that the most important thing is how to avoid danger. It is most important that those medicines should not be consumed, which harm the kidneys. There are usually several alternatives to a drug. Secondly, if alternatives are not available then low dose of medicine should be taken and it should be taken only for a limited period of time. People usually take many medicines for a long time without asking the doctor. If there are damages for the kidneys of that drug, then it can pose a danger.
